Introduction: Understanding Psalm 23

Psalm 23 is one of the most beloved passages in the Bible, written by King David
It expresses deep trust in God's provision and protection
The metaphor of God as shepherd reveals His personal care for each individual
This psalm has comforted millions through difficult times and continues to offer hope today

The Lord is My Shepherd (Verses 1-3)

Personal Relationship with God

David begins with "The Lord is my shepherd" - not just a shepherd, but MY shepherd
This indicates a personal, intimate relationship with God
Shepherds in biblical times knew each sheep by name and cared for them individually
God knows us personally, understands our needs, and cares for us specifically

I Shall Not Want

"I shall not want" means we lack nothing essential under God's care
This doesn't mean we get everything we want, but everything we need
God provides physically, emotionally, and spiritually
Contentment comes from trusting God's provision rather than accumulating possessions
